Audition Announcement for SENSE AND SENSIBILITY

THE STORY: A playful new adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of the Dashwood sisters—sensible Elinor and hypersensitive Marianne—after their father’s sudden death leaves them financially destitute and socially vulnerable. Set in gossipy late 18th-century England, with a fresh female voice, the play is full of humor, emotional depth, and bold theatricality. SENSE AND SENSIBILITY examines our reactions, both reasonable and ridiculous, to societal pressures. When reputation is everything, how do you follow your heart?

Opens: March 8, 2024

Closes: March 17, 2024

Auditions: January 15 & 16, 2024 7 PM At Dayton Playhouse

Auditions will consist of cold readings and improvisation games.   All races, genders and abilities are encouraged to audition.

This is not your mother’s Jane Austen.  Please come prepared to play. If you have a British accent, bring it with you however, it is not required for auditions.  Looking for actors who are willing to have fun, learn, explore, work as part of a true ensemble and maybe get your hands dirty along the way.

Please see our Auditions page for a breakdown of available roles.

Please contact the director, Jenni Cypher, with any questions by email at jennic42@gmail.com or by text message at 937-430-7820.

Auditions coming up for IS THERE LIFE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL?

Director Kathleen Clark is looking for singers/actors who would like to be part of a very fun, poignant show that takes a look at high school experiences; good and bad. Great songs and lots of comedy.

A good singing belt would be GREAT, but not mandatory. The actors/singers need to be, or look to be in their 30’s through 40’s and need to be able to hold a choral harmony part when needed.

AUDITION PROCESS:
Attend either Tuesday, November 14, or Wednesday, November 15.

You will be given an informational sheet and be asked to fill out your contact information. Please be prepared to list all conflicts between November 16, 2023 and January 28, 2024.

Come prepared with approx. 16 bars of a pop song that shows your range. Please bring sheet music, an accompanist will be provided.

Be ready to do a cold reading from the script. If you are not asked to read, it doesn’t necessarily mean you are not being considered for the show.

There will be a meeting for those cast on Thursday, November 16 at 6:30 PM.
